Rabindra K. Swain

Rabindra K. Swain is an Indian poet, literary critic, translator, and editor, recognized for his significant contribution to contemporary Indian poetry in English. He earned his PhD with a dissertation on the poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra, an influence that has shaped both his creative and critical engagement with modern Indian literature.

His poems have been published in leading international journals such as Weber StudiesThe Kenyon ReviewTimes Literary Supplement (U.K.), and Ariel (Canada). His fourth collection of poems, Susurrus in the Skull, is forthcoming from Authorspress, New Delhi, and continues his exploration of memory, language, and inner landscapes.

Swain is also a respected literary critic. His book Silent Tongues: Writings in Contemporary Indian Poetry (2006) offers important perspectives on post-Independence Indian poetry in English. He has written widely on Indian poets and poetic traditions, contributing essays and reviews that connect creative practice with critical discourse.

He serves as the Managing Editor of Chandrabhaga, the literary journal founded by Jayanta Mahapatra, and is a Trustee of the Ketaki Foundation Trust, Bhubaneswar. Through his editorial and institutional roles, Swain remains actively engaged in promoting poetry, literary scholarship, and contemporary writing in India.
