Pritish Acharya
Born in Garvana village of Bargarh district in Odisha in 1963, he studied in G.M College, Sambalpur, and JNU, New Delhi. He is currently working as Professor of History at the NCERT and is posted at RIE, Ajmer, Rajasthan. He is a bi-lingual writer. His publications include National Movement and Politics in Orissa: 1920-29 (2008; Sage Publications, New Delhi), Vernacularizing Pasts, Odisha: Mahabharata to ‘Modernity (Co-author; 2022; Primus, New Delhi), Odisha Through the Ages (2025: B.K. Publication, Bhubaneswar) and Selected Writings of Madhusudan Das (NBT, New Delhi). He has translated Romila Thapar’s Penguin History of Early India (NTM, Mysore), Bipan Chandra’s History of Modern India (Orient Blackswan, New Delhi), Inder Malhotra’s Indira Gandhi (NBT), V.K.R.V. Rao’s Swami Vivekananda (Publication Division, New Delhi) and Aravind Mohan’s M. K. Gandhinka Champaran Dairy (Gopabandhu Sahitya Mandir, Cuttack), and Ba, Bapu-150 (NBT) into Odia. His short story collections are like Pausa Pahile Jai, Patri Anweshana, Atmalipi and Gopana Chithi, and in Hindi Iti Dubidha Katha. He has edited Smrutire Sikshaka (Sikshasandhan, Bhubaneswar), Gopabandhu Chayanika (NBT) and Odisha Itihas (Ama Odisha, Bhubaneswar).
His short stories have been published in Hindi journals, such as Samakalin Bharatiya Sahitya, Kathadesh, Naya Gyanodaya. He has contributed articles to EPW, Mainstream and Social Science Probing. His latest work, Prathama Purushare (2025), published by Ketaki Books, Bhubaneswar is a collection of Odia short essays on issues concerning varied facets of history, culture, literature, education and other social issues.
