Rabinarayan Mahapatra
Rabinarayan Mahapatra is an Indian Odia writer and translator, best known for rendering Gopabandhu Das’s Prisoner’s Autobiography into English as Prison Musings. He has also translated Nirupama Devi: A Life Dedicated to Education into English, further underscoring his commitment to bringing significant Odia lives and texts to a wider readership through sensitive and scholarly translation.
His formative years unfolded in the serene surroundings of Jagatsinghpur, which shaped his early sensibilities and intellectual outlook. Professionally, Mahapatra pursued a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades as a mining geologist with Hindustan Zinc Limited in Udaipur. His work extended beyond national boundaries, involving geological exploration in countries such as Turkey, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, and Zambia, where he made notable contributions to the exploration of minerals such as molybdenum, lead, zinc, manganese, and copper.
